Pre-Season Puzzle Challenge
The first preseason challenge this year was the Rin’s Comet Puzzle Challenge, based on my original comic series. I spent weeks prepping panels from Part I, which has 17 pages made up of 2 to 10 panels each. Each panel became its own puzzle piece. Before the timer started, players got a chance to study the comic and could reference it during the challenge. Then they had 5 minutes to sort through a bin of mixed-up panels and rebuild as many pages as possible. Each correct page earned one point. By the end of the night, the player with the highest score took the win.
State Wide Hide and Seek
The second preseason challenge took the game to the streets, literally, with a statewide game of hide and seek. Fern was hiding somewhere in New Jersey, and it was up to the contestants to find him. Five player cars entered the game, each one a mobile team working together to crack the case. Through a series of mini challenges, teams earned points they could spend asking strategic yes-or-no questions to narrow down Fern’s location. Phase One was all about figuring out which county he was hiding in. Once a team confirmed they were physically in the correct county, Phase Two kicked off. The first player to locate and tag Fern in person clinched the win for their car.
