Lab Partners – Comic Completion Update

After a full year of work, Lab Partners is officially complete!

Every panel was penciled, inked, scanned, and colored as the pages were finished, a process that took longer than expected but was well worth the effort. Clean lines, vibrant colors, and meticulous detail were top priorities—I wanted this to be my best work to date. This also marks my first time working on finished pages since Rin’s Comet Part II back in the fall of 2021, making it a significant milestone in my creative journey.

One of the special touches in Lab Partners is the inclusion of The Foes of Fern, an Asbury Park band, as background extras throughout the comic. Their presence adds an authentic touch to the world and ties the story even closer to real-life inspirations. The book is also littered with Easter eggs, referencing A Night To Remember, other projects, and real-world influences, rewarding sharp-eyed readers with hidden details woven throughout the pages.

This book also saw new artistic experiments, including colored line art to bring a fresh vibrancy to the visuals and heightened contrast during key moments. The projector scenes, in particular, were a playground for shadow work, pushing depth and atmosphere to enrich the storytelling.

Speaking of real-world influences, the book’s backgrounds are based on actual locations, primarily modeled after Ocean County College, NJ. Every environment was crafted to feel grounded and immersive, reinforcing the passage of time and the evolving friendship between Cassandra and Charlotte.

By October 2023, Lab Partners entered its final editing stage, marking the end of an extensive 12-month creative journey to bring this prelude to life.
